If you want to keep the carpeting in your home in excellent condition, you will need to schedule regular professional carpet cleaning services. But your appointment involves more than just calling your preferred carpet cleaning company and setting up a day and time for them to visit your home. Make sure you do the following things prior to your carpet cleaning appointment:
Move Your Furniture
In most cases, carpet cleaning companies do not include moving furniture as part of their services. This is often an insurance issue, as moving large pieces of furniture can cause serious injuries. It is important to make arrangements to have your furniture moved out of the way before the carpet cleaning company arrives. Ideally, your carpet should be completely free of all furniture. Plan on keeping your furniture in the garage or an uncarpeted room for several hours so your carpet has the opportunity to completely dry.
Protect the Walls and Baseboards
The hoses connected to the machinery used by a professional carpet cleaning company can rub against the corners of your walls and baseboards as the technician is working on deep cleaning your carpet. The friction from the hoses can potentially damage the paint or leave dark smudges on the wall. An easy way to prevent this is by applying high-quality painters tape along your baseboards and the corners of your walls. Painters type is typically quite inexpensive, and it will not cause any damage to your walls when it is removed.
Vacuum
Some carpet cleaning companies include vacuuming, while others do not. It is a good idea to find out if vacuuming is included in advance of your appointment. If it is not, take the time to slowly and carefully vacuum the carpet that is going to be cleaned. When you vacuum your carpet before a cleaning appointment, the machine used to deep clean the carpet will be able to do a better job at cleaning the carpet fibers and removing built up dirt and debris that can't be removed with vacuuming alone.
Secure Your Pets
If you own a dog, cat, or any other type of pet, don't forget to secure them in a safe place before your carpet cleaning technician arrives. Deep cleaning carpeting can be very difficult with an animal underfoot, and the loud sound made by the carpet cleaning machine can scare animals or make them feel stressed. Keep your pets in a kennel in another room, put them outside, or secure them in a room where you can shut the door.
